HC Deb 23 July 1970 vol 804 cc179-80W
Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the estimated amount of public money to be spent on special buildings for the education of children suffering from spina bifida for the years 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974, respectively.

Mr. van Straubenzee

Special schools for physically handicapped children, including those suffering from spina bifida, are planned for building in 1970–71 and 1971–72 at an estimated cost of £1.5 million in each financial year. One of these schools, to start in 1970–71 at an estimated cost of £365,000, is designed solely for children suffering from spina bifida: the proportion of such children will depend on local circumstances at any given time. Estimates for later years are not yet available.
