HC Deb 23 July 1970 vol 804 c177W
38. Mr. Ellis

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many schemes for the reorganisation of secondary education in Wales have been approved in each of the six categories laid down in Circular 10/65 of her Department.

Mrs. Thatcher

Sixty-two. Of these 49 are all-through schemes 11–18 and 11–16; 11 are partly all-through and partly two-tier schemes with automatic transfer at 13 or 14. There is one sixth form college with 11–16 schools, and one scheme involving a 9–13 middle school. There are no two-tier schemes with optional transfer at 13 or 14.

39. Mr. Ellis

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many schemes for reorganising secondary education in Wales prior to the issue of Circular 10/70 had been approved; how many schemes are currently lodged with her; and what proportion of secondary schoolchildren in Wales is covered by schemes approved by or lodged with her.

Mrs. Thatcher

Sixty-two had been approved before Circular 10/70; 12 are under consideration by my Department. The answer to the third part of the Question is not readily available.
