30. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what plans she has for assisting in the building of new schools in the London Borough of Newham, in view of the local authorities special problems connected with finance, slum clearance, war damage, immigrant population increase and related matters; and what schools he estimates will be built within the foreseeable future.

Work is due to start this year and next on 10 new primary schools which will provide 3,500 places at a cost of over £1 million.
