HC Deb 23 July 1970 vol 804 cc193-5W
Sir B. Rhys Williams

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish a table showing the net incomes after tax of single men over a standard range of incomes assuming income wholly earned and wholly derived from investment and a comparable table showing the same cases but assuming that the recipient of the income is blind.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

The figures are in the tables below. Table A shows the net income of a single person entitled to no more than the basic single allowance; table B gives figures for a single person entitled, in addition, to the maximum blind persons allowance of £100.

Sir B. Rhys Williams

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish figures showing the net incomes after tax, but including family allowances, of married men with ten children over a standard range of incomes.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

The figures are as follows:

Net income after tax
Earnings Married men with 10 children under 11*
£ £ £ s. d. £ s. d.
per week per annum per week per annum
11 572 19 18 0 1,034 18 0
12 624 20 18 0 1,086 18 0
13 676 21 18 0 1,138 18 0
14 728 22 18 0 1,190 18 0
15 780 23 18 0 1,242 18 0
16 832 24 18 0 1,294 18 0
18 936 26 18 0 1,398 18 0
20 1,040 28 18 0 1,502 18 0
25 1,300 32 16 9 1,707 10 0
30 1,560 36 4 8 1,884 1 0
40 2,080 43 0 6 2,237 5 0
50 2,600 49 16 3 2,590 8 0
100 5,200 83 15 5 4,356 5 0
* For those with earnings up to £20 a week there is no liability to tax, and the net incomes are the same, regardless of the ages of the children. At the higher levels of earnings shown in the table, the net income is greater than that shown if any child is over 11. For instance taking £40 a week earnings and assuming that two children are over 16, one 14, another 12 and all the others under 11, the net income is £44 4s. 3d. per week and £2,299 2s. 6d. per year.
