asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the number of respiratory diseases associated with industry in 1968 and 1969 and to the nearest available date; and what preventative measures are being taken.

These matters are within the sphere of my right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity. I am informed that the Factories Act, 1961, and Regulations made thereunder contain provisions designed to protect employed persons against the hazard of inhalation of substances liable to produce adverse effects on the respiratory system. I have no information as to the number of respiratory diseases associated with industry in 1968 and 1969.
