HC Deb 23 July 1970 vol 804 cc204-5W
78. Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will undertake that the British Government will oppose, or refuse to discuss, the application by South Africa for associate membership of the European Common Market in the course of the present European Economic Community negotiations.

Mr. Anthony Royle

South Africa has not applied for associate membership of the European Communities. The question of the attitude of Her Majesty's Government does not therefore arise.

Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will arrange to issue a White Paper on all aspects of Great Britain's entry into the Common Market and the terms and conditions upon which Her Majesty's Government would enter the European Economic Community, giving the difference between such terms of acceptance and those contained in the White Paper published last February.

Mr. Anthony Royle

No.

Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will publish any information in his possession on the implications for Commonwealth producers and the Commonwealth primary producers of Great Britain's entry into the European Economic Community, and on the extent to which loss of Commonwealth exports to Great Britain of primary products will entail the loss of ancillary exports from Great Britain to the Commonwealth of manufactured items and factories such as lorries and canning factories.

Mr. Anthony Royle

I have no plans to do so.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will invite the Commonwealth Secretariat to co-ordinate consultation on the European Economic Community with and between Commonwealth countries.

Mr. Anthony Royle

No.
