LORD HAWKEasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether, in view of the grave shortage of capital, they will cause the C.E.G.B. to study whether economies in capital could result from greater reliance on pump storage schemes and gas turbine generators to meet peak load conditions, rather than the erection of large new generation stations.
§ LORD DENHAMThe C.E.G.B. is continuously studying the economics of electricity generation and is keenly aware of the need for economy, not only in capital expenditure but also in total costs. The latter objective may not always be consistent with economies in capital, and the C.E.G.B. also have regard to the need to preserve a suitable balance between the various types of generating plant.
