§ Mr. Jannerasked the Minister of Transport (1) what representations have been made to him in connection with the proposed West Bridge Traffic Scheme in Leicester;
(2) what representations he has received in connection with alternative schemes to the proposed West Bridge Traffic Scheme in Leicester, designed to improve traffic flow in the immediate locality.
§ Mr. Michael HeseltineLeicester City Council is the highway authority for the West Bridge Traffic Scheme. We have received no representations either about that or any alternative schemes.
§ Mr. Jannerasked the Minister of Transport how many families will be evicted as a result of proceeding with the proposed West Bridge Traffic Scheme in Leicester.
§ Mr. Michael HeseltineI understand that much of the land which may be required for the scheme is in a clearance area where demolition and rehousing is already scheduled. Some 120 houses outside this area may also be required. It is not yet possible to say how many families will need to be rehoused.
§ Mr. Jannerasked the Minister of Transport what compensation he proposes to approve to families not evicted from their homes by the proposed West Bridge Traffic Scheme in Leicester, but whose homes will be alongside the proposed road and whose amenities will be adversely affected thereby.
§ Mr. Michael HeseltineI would refer the hon. Member to the reply to my right hon. Friend the Member for Liverpool, Wavertree (Mr. Tilney) on 15th July.—[Vol. 803, c. 1517–1518.]
