HC Deb 22 July 1970 vol 804 c146W
Mr. Gwynoro Jones

asked the Minister of Transport which passenger rail services running through the constituency of Carmarthen receive a subsidy in accordance with the Transport Act; what was the total amount of subsidy provided for each service last year; and if he will give an assurance that these subsidised services will continue.

Mr. Peyton

Three rail passenger services running into the county of Carmarthen are at present grant aided under Section 39(1) of the Transport Act, 1968: the Swansea-Llanelli-Shrewsbury and the Swansea-Carmarthen-Milford Haven services until 31st December, 1971, and the Whitland-Pembroke Dock service until December, 1972. The amount of grant aid paid for each of these services during 1969, including transitional grants under Section 39(4) of the Transport Act, 1968, was £272,410, £345,000 and £72,000 respectively.

I shall be considering in due course whether the grant for each of these services should be continued.
