HC Deb 21 July 1970 vol 804 c104W
Mr. Judd

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to European Governments concerning the evasion of Rhodesian sanctions by European firms; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Anthony Royle

There has been no occasion for us to make general representations to European Governments about sanction matters. If we have specific evidence of sanctions evasions by the nationals of any country, including European countries, this is brought to the attention of the United Nations Sanctions Supervisory Committee. This is the best forum, and has the proper machinery for dealing with such matters. Furthermore, Security Council Resolutions No. 253 (1968) and No. 277 (1970) each request the United Kingdom as the administering Power, to give maximum assistance to that committee, and to provide the committee with any information which it may receive in order that the measures envisaged in those resolutions and Resolution No. 232 (1966) may be rendered fully effective.
