Dame Joan Vickers

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works (1) when the new Government offices in the Horse-ferry Road/Marsham Street area are to be opened; and which Departments will work there;

(2) how long the new Government buildings in Horseferry Road/Marsham Street area have taken to build; and what is the total cost;

(3) when the new Government offices are opened in the Horseferry Road/Marsham Street area, what arrangements have been made for the parking of cars.

Mr. Amery

The new Government offices in Marsham Street are expected to be occupied, by about the end of the year, by the Ministries of Housing and Local Government and Transport.

Construction will have taken just over six years, including a 13-months' stoppage due to strike action. The total cost, including site purchase and work on the foundations, is expected to be about £7.85 million.

Over 300 car parking spaces will be provided, for use by the Government Car Service, for other official purposes and for visitors.
