Mr. Tugendhat

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what is the average salary paid to Members of the House of Commons, taking into account the salaries paid to Ministers, Opposition Leaders and Members who are Officers of the House and the £1,250 paid to each of them in addition to salaries; and what was the equivalent figure in 1969 and in 1966.

The estimated average salary of Members of the House of Commons, including Ministers, Opposition Officers and Officers of the House is currently £3,671. The equivalent figures for 1969 and 1966 are £3,757 and £3,816, respectively.
