HC Deb 21 July 1970 vol 804 cc104-5W
Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications what percentage of the people of Cardiganshire lives in areas which are at present served by BBC2.

Mr. Chataway

The B.B.C., which is primarily responsible for the coverage attained by its services, tells me that no part of Cardiganshire is at present served by BBC2.

Mr. Elysian Morgan

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications what percentage of the people of Cardiganshire will be served by BBC2 after work on installing an ultra-high frequency aerial at Blaen-plwyf has been completed.

Mr. Chataway

I understand some 52 per cent.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications when it is proposed to provide BBC2 service for all the areas of Cardiganshire.

Mr. Chataway

The B.B.C. tell me that some 8,000 people, an additional 15 per cent., live within the area which the Presely station, due to start transmitting BBC2 in 1973, is expected to serve. The location of any additional stations to pick up the service from Blaen Plwyf and Presely and relay it further into Cardiganshire cannot effectively be considered until these two main stations are operational.
