HC Deb 20 July 1970 vol 804 cc53-4W
Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will upgrade the Montagu Hospital, Mexborough, in view of the deficiencies now existing at the hospital.

Mr. Alison

The Sheffield Regional Hospital Board has no current plans to upgrade this hospital. As the hon. Member will be aware, it is giving priority to building a new district general hospital at Rotherham to serve this area, and until the effect of this new hospital has been assessed the regional board would not feel justified in considering more than minor improvements to Montagu Hospital. Over £60,000 has already been spent on such improvements.
