asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he maintains an analysis of correspondence from members of the public expressing opinions on matters of policy relating to his Department; and how long such correspondence is normally retained in his Department.

Mr. Sharples

No such analysis is kept. Correspondence of this kind is normally retained for at least five years.
