Dame Joan Vickers

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the Government accept Recommendation No. 603 on the European Conservation Conference which was adopted by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 21st April, 1970; and whether they will instruct their Permanent Representative in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to vote in favour of the proposals contained in paragraph 6 of this recommendation.

Mr. Anthony Royle

Her Majesty's Government gave their support in principle to the Declaration adopted by the European Conservation Conference. The specific proposals contained in Recommendation No. 603 for following up the Declaration will require further study and elaboration by the appropriate organs of the Council of Europe in whose work we shall play an active part.
