Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what number of students successfully completed courses of teacher training in Wales in the last year for which figures are available; how many of these students were from Flintshire; and how many of these Flintshire students took up their first appointment in Flintshire and were bilingual.

Mr. van Straubenzee

The number of students who successfully completed courses of teacher training in Wales in the academic year 1967–68 was 2,319, comprised of 793 men and 1,526 women. This included teachers who trained at colleges of education, art teacher training centres and university departments of education.

Information by place of residence of students is not available.

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many first appointment Flintshire-born students taking up posts in Flintshire were trained in a bilingual course in a Welsh college of education from Flintshire; and how many first appointment students, not from Flintshire, but offered posts by the Flintshire Local Education Authority, were trained in a bilingual course in a Welsh college of education.
