HC Deb 15 July 1970 vol 803 c218W
87. Mr. Doig

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will now give a completion date for the new Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

The boiler house, laundry and nurse training school with some of the associated residences are already in use. The current completion dates for the main hospital and medical school buildings—December, 1971—and the radiotherapy, minor specialties and maternity blocks—in the course of 1972—are at present under review by the regional hospital board.

88. Mr. Doig

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland why plumbers have been paid off at the Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, in view of the fact that there is still plumbing work to be done there and the building work is again behind schedule.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

The employment of tradesmen at Ninewells is the responsibility of the contractors engaged upon the scheme. I understand that three plumbers have been declared redundant, after consultation with their union, but that this will not affect the rate of progress on the scheme.
