HC Deb 14 July 1970 vol 803 c186W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister for the Civil Service whether he will seek to apply the Government's policy of reallocating housing subsidies so as to benefit those in most urgent need and to institute rent rebate schemes to Ministers of the Crown and others who have the benefit of tax-free housing accommodation, furniture and housing amenities supplied by the Government by virtue of the official positions they hold.

Mr. David Howell

No. This would not be appropriate, since Ministerial residences are occupied as a requirement of the job. It is already the policy that occupants of other Government houses should pay a fair rent.
