HC Deb 14 July 1970 vol 803 cc187-8W
Mr. Golding

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity (1) what criteria he is using, when asked to intervene in disputes, to recommend levels of pay for varying occupations in the private sector of industry;

(2) what criteria he will use when asked to intervene in disputes when recommending the levels of pay for different occupations in the nationalised industries.

Mr. Bryan

I do not recommend levels of pay in either the private sector of industry or in the nationalised industries. The Government regard it as of the greatest importance that, when negotiating increases in pay, employers and unions should have regard to the effect of their agreements on the economy generally as well as to the needs of their own particular industries.
