HC Deb 14 July 1970 vol 803 cc176-7W
Mr. Fox

asked the Minister of Transport if he will give an assurance that he will not introduce the provision in the Transport Act, 1968, to reduce the permitted hours of driving for both goods and passenger vehicle drivers from 10 hours to nine hours.

Mr. Peyton

I have no present intention of doing so.

Mr. Fox

asked the Minister of Transport if he will seek to amend the Transport Act, 1968, to make a distinction in the permitted hours of duty between drivers of stage carriage or express services and those on excursion or private hire operations, in view of the fact that the latter are able to take rest periods at their destinations.

Mr. Michael Heseltine

The Act and the Modifications Order already make distinctions of this nature. I am sending my hon. Friend information about them.
