asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if, in view of the Government's intention to abolish the Land Commission, he will seek to avoid a long period of uncertainty in land transactions by making an early statement of Government policy in respect of the betterment levy and alternatives to it.

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will give a general direction to the Land Commission to suspend the collection of betterment levy on transactions resulting in losses to the parties on whom levy is assessed, pending legislation to dissolve the Commission.

No. But my right hon. Friend will be making a general statement about arrangements in regard to the betterment levy before the Recess.
