HC Deb 14 July 1970 vol 803 c157W
38. Mr. Milne

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will make an examination of the detrimental effect of the removal of sand from beaches in Northumberland and throughout the country, in view of Her Majesty's Government's policy to safeguard the beauty of the British countryside and seashore for the future.

Mr. Peter Walker

There are very few places in England where beach workings have been permitted in recent years. Strict conditions have been attached to planning consents given for that purpose, both in Northumberland and elsewhere. I will, however, keep the position under review.
