70. Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the number of dialysis units in the Sheffield regional hospitals, the number of patients receiving treatment, the number of staff involved and the shortfall of the latter personnel.

Mr. Alison

There are two units in the Sheffield Region treating 42 patients with chronic renal failure, 22 of whom are being dialysed in their own homes. Staff in post number six doctors, 15 nurses, five technicians and five other staff and vacancies exist for 13 nurses and two other staff. Not all the staff work full time in the units.
