HC Deb 13 July 1970 vol 803 c145W
Mr. Ronald Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity in view of the assessment by fire brigade experts that one cubic foot of polyurethane foam fully combusted will give out the heat of six electric fires and that firespread is rapid, if he will now take steps to ensure the use of flame-retardant polyether foam in furniture and bedding manufacture.

Mr. Dudley Smith

My right hon. Friend is looking closely at the question of the use of flame retardant polyether foam, but he is not satisfied that at this particular time it is a matter requiring legislation. A number of Departments are currently engaged in research into the subject.
