HC Deb 09 July 1970 vol 803 cc101-2W
Mr. Proudfoot

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will consider paying pensions by cheque through the post.

Mr. Dean

Pensions can already be paid three months in arrear by crossed payable orders negotiable through banks. Most pensioners prefer to receive their pensions weekly, and for them the most economical method of payment is the pension order book, the weekly orders in which combine the functions of a receipt for the pension and a declaration that the conditions for payment are satisfied.
