asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will introduce legislation at an early date to restore the business franchise in local elections.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will introduce legislation, in time for the currency of the 1971 Electoral Register, to restore the business qualification and enable persons working but not residing in a local authority area to stand as candidates.

Mr. Sharples

My right hon. Friend is considering these matter urgently and will inform the House of his conclusion before it rises for the recess.
