HC Deb 08 July 1970 vol 803 cc62-3W
66. Sir D. Walker-Smith

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that the decision not to confirm the Duke Street, Hoddesdon, Improvement Side Roads Order has caused concern in Hoddesdon; and if he will review the position to ensure an alleviation of present traffic congestion and inconvenience to residents of Middlefield Road, Hoddesdon.

Mr. Michael Heseltine

I am aware of concern in Hoddesdon at the decision not to confirm this Order. A review of the position showed no satisfactory way of relieving traffic conditions in Middlefield Road in advance of construction of the Hoddesdon By-Pass, work on which should start within the next two years, subject to the completion of the statutory procedures and the availability of funds.

67. Sir D. Walker-Smith

asked the Minister of Transport whether, compatibly with proper consideration of the objections, he will expedite consideration of the Hoddesdon-Ware By-Pass Order with a view to obtaining early definition of a route combining the greatest traffic convenience with the minimum detriment to residential or other amenity.

Mr. Michael Heseltine

Yes. A public inquiry was held last week and we are awaiting the Inspector's report.
