HC Deb 08 July 1970 vol 803 cc58-9W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the number of civil servants employed by Scottish Office Departments in Scotland on 19th June, 1970; and what is his estimate of the number who will be employed on 18th June, 1971.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

On 1st June, 1970, the number of non-industrial staff was 8,187, which included 2,078 employed in the Prison and State Hospital services. The Departmental estimates for the current financial year prepared under the previous Government allowed for an increase to 8,449, including 2,168 for the Prison and State Hospital Services, by 31st March, 1971. I cannot make forecasts until I have reviewed the work that is being done.
