HC Deb 07 July 1970 vol 803 cc21-2W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will make a statement of his proposals to allow the sale of council-owned housing to sitting tenants; and if he will take steps to ensure that these houses are not resold to the highest bidder and to those with less social need.

Mr. Peter Walker

I have removed the previous restrictions on the sale of council houses, so that now all authorities have consent to dispose of council houses as they think fit. Authorities can impose conditions preventing resale for five years at a figure above the purchase price and reserving the right of pre-emption for the same period.
