Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT his estimate of the priorities in new and renovated school building for the London Borough of Brent, the estimated cost and designation of the buildings expected within the next five years as a result of the recent examination of these problems by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State on 12th December, 1969.

Miss Bacon

Brent's approved major school building programme for starts in the two years 1970–72 totals nearly £1.4 million. It consists of the following projects designed mainly to provide for increases and movement of school population:

PRIMARY SCHOOLS

  • Donnington Road.
  • Landon Road.
  • Kilburn Park*.
  • St. Mary's Church of England*.
  • St. Mary's Roman Catholic*.
  • St. John's Roman Catholic.
  • Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic

SECONDARY SCHOOLS

  • Copland.
  • Preston Manor.
  • East Lane.
  • St. Gregory's Roman Catholic.

* Improvement or replacement in 1970–71.

In addition Brent has allocations of £115,000 in each year for minor projects costing less than £25,000 each.

The Authority is proposing six further primary school projects costing about £370,000 to start in 1971–72. These are:

  • Keeble Memorial.
  • Brondesbury Church of England.
  • Salisbury.
  • Princess Frederika Church of England.
  • St. Andrew's Church of England.
  • Kensal Rise.
These will be considered together with proposals from other authorities for a place in the £15 million improvement programme for England and Wales.

It is too soon to give information about programmes after 1971–72.
