HC Deb 28 January 1970 vol 794 c365W
80. Mr. Willey

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what discussions she has had with employers and trade unions about her reference of industrial relations in the shipbuilding and ship-repairing industry to the Commission for Industrial Relations; and if she will make a further statement on the reasons for this reference.

Mr. Harold Walker

This reference was fully discussed beforehand with the Shipbuilders and Repairers National Association and the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions. The T.U.C., the C.B.I, and the Shipbuilding Industry Board were also consulted.

The commission will examine the industry's institutions and procedures for industrial relations with a view to giving practical help in promoting further improvements beyond what has already been achieved since the 1966 Geddes Report.
