HC Deb 27 January 1970 vol 794 cc311-2W
Mr. Roebuck

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will now make a statement about the response to his Department's recent advertising campaign about the services of rent officers.

Mr. Greenwood

Applications to rent officers by tenants for registration of fair rents during the two months of the campaign and during the next two months, compared with the four months preceding the campaign increased by 20 per cent. in London and 44 per cent. outside London. There were considerable variations within London, and between panels in the rest of England.

Both in London and the rest of England a majority of rent officers report inquiries as being about 30 per cent. more than usual during the campaign period.

I now propose to arrange for further research into the best methods of bringing the rent service to the notice of those who could benefit.
