asked the Minister of Transport if he will authorise a special piercing rear light to be used on vehicles on motorways only when there is blockage of traffic, with a view to preventing pile up accidents.

Specially bright red rear lights are already permitted—though they must not be used unnecessarily so as to dazzle people. The use of all four flashing direction indicators is also permitted as a hazard warning device.
