HC Deb 27 January 1970 vol 794 cc291-2W
36. Mr. Robert Howarth

asked the Minister of Transport how many casualties were caused by the multiple accidents which occurred on 8th December in the fog on the M6; how many arose from vehicles crossing the central reservation; and if he will now construct crash barriers on this motorway.

Mr. Mulley

Three people were killed, seven seriously injured and seven slightly injured. None of the accidents was caused by a vehicle crossing the central reserve. I shall consider the question of crash barriers on M6 as soon as I have completed my review of criteria.

37. Mr. Robert Howarth

asked the Minister of Transport if he will investigate the multiple crashes which occurred during fog on the M1 and M6 in the last few days with a view to establishing whether articulated vehicles are more difficult to control in such conditions.

Mr. Mulley

Inquiries disclose no evidence that difficulty in controlling articulated vehicles was a factor in these accidents.
