HC Deb 27 January 1970 vol 794 c289W
18. Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is satisfied with the braking standards and provisions of heavy goods vehicles being constructed for 44 tons gross vehicle weight; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Mulley

This is something which I am currently investigating as part of my consideration of the industry's proposal that there should be a 44 ton weight limit.

29. Mr. Berry

asked the Minister of Transport what guidance has been sought by, and given to, the manufacturers of goods vehicles with regard to the manufacture of vehicles whose weight or dimensions exceed the present legal limit.

Mr. Mulley

There have been discussions on various technical aspects of heavier and in some cases marginally longer vehicles. In these discussions we have emphasised that there can be no presumption that the limits will be raised.
