asked the Minister of Transport what will be the amount of the grant payable by his Department in the second half of 1970 towards the cost of providing the Euston-Stranraer boat train; and whether he will make a statement.

In his reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Central Ayrshire (Mr. Manuel) on 18th December, 1969, my right hon. Friend explained that he had restricted the grant for the Euston-Stranraer service to six months to enable an examination to be made of the most suitable future arrangements for providing the service.
