HC Deb 26 January 1970 vol 794 cc257-8W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many widows in Scotland were entirely without a pension or allowances on the latest date for which figures are available; and if he will give a breakdown of the figure into age groups.

Mr. Ennals

It is estimated that on 31st December 1968 there were about 13,000 widows age 60 and over and 4,000 under 60 in Scotland without a pension or allowance—that is, retirement pension, widow's benefits under the national insurance, industrial injuries and war pension schemes, or supplementary benefit.
