§ 50. Mr. Willeyasked the Minister of Technology whether he will invite the Shipbuilding Industry Board to promote a feasibility study of the recommendation of the Shipbuilding Inquiry Committee 1965–66 that British shipbuilding should recover 12½ per cent. or more of the world market with output around 2¼ million gross tons per annum.
§ Dr. Ernest A. DaviesNo. We do not think it necessary to promote a formal feasibility study. The board is in close and continuous touch with shipbuilders about the increase of their output necessary to enable them to complete on time the merchant and naval orders worth nearly £800 million which they now have in hand.
