HC Deb 23 January 1970 vol 794 cc207-8W
Mrs. Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity in how many cases in Scotland has the Manpower and Productivity Service of her Department provided services, broken down into areas and types of cases and into the number of members of staff allotted and the period of time the services were offered.

Mr. Harold Walker

During 1969 the service made 476 advisory visits to firms in Scotland to discuss with management current manpower and productivity problems and offer advice on what could be done. The principal subjects discussed were productivity improvement, industrial relations, labour turnover, wage structures and shop steward training. The service undertook fuller surveys at 22 firms to diagnose their problems and recommend changes. Eleven manpower advisers are at present in post. Figures for particular areas of Scotland are not available. The service also dealt with 62 conciliation and 288 incomes policy cases in 1969.
