HC Deb 23 January 1970 vol 794 cc204-5W
Mr. Lane

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what has been the percentage increase in public expenditure in real terms on education in Great Britain in each of the years from 1958–59 to 1968–69;

(2) what has been the percentage increase in public expenditure in real terms on primary education, secondary education, further education and university education in Great Britain in each of the years from 1964–65 to 1968–69.

Mr. Edward Short

This information is not available in the form requested, since the comparative analysis of educational expenditure for past years present technical problems which still need further study. However, I estimate that in real terms public expenditure on education in Great Britain rose on average by about 6 per cent. per annum during the years from 1958–59 to 1968–69.

Mr. Lane

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what
