HC Deb 22 January 1970 vol 794 cc187-8W
Mr. Nott

asked the Minister for the Civil Service how many additional jobs have been created in the Penzance-St. Ives-St. Mary's and Helston employment areas, and in Cornwall generally, by the movement of Government offices or agencies to these areas since 1966.

Mr. Shore

None, although construction of a Composite Signals Organisation Station at Bude is well advanced and will employ about 150 staff by 1971, a fair proportion of whom it is hoped to recruit locally. In moving offices and agencies, the Government takes account of two main factors, its policy towards regional development and the effect of location on the operational efficiency of the departments concerned. Cornwall, as with other development areas, is considered in the normal course for the location of a Government office move.
