§ Mr. Laneasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what has been the average increase in school building costs in England and Wales since cost limits were last raised in June, 1966;
(2) what has been the increase in school building costs in the Greater London and other South-East regions since cost limits were last raised in June, 1966.
§ Miss BaconThe index of the cost of new construction published by the Ministry of Public Building and Works shows 175W an increase of approximately nine per cent. between the third quarter of 1966 and the second quarter of 1969. No separate index of school building costs is maintained and during the period in question all new schools have been designed and built to conform with cost limits which apply uniformly to England and Wales.
