HC Deb 22 January 1970 vol 794 c177W
47. Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many representations have been made to him in the past year by hon. Members concerning alleged obscene or pornographic literature and publications; and what further action he is taking in the light of such representations.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

In 1969, 299 letters from 197 hon. Members about allegedly obscene material were received. Of these, 229 letters concerned circulars advertising three books. All three books have been considered by the Director of Public Prosecutions and one of them and the circular advertising it are the subject of criminal proceedings. My right hon. Friend is considering what further action can be taken.
