HC Deb 21 January 1970 vol 794 cc152-3W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will seek further initiatives to bring about a peaceful solution in the Middle East following renewed threats against Israel.

Mr. Luard

Her Majesty's Government are playing a full part in the talks now taking place in New York between representatives of France, the United States, the Soviet Union and the United Kingdom. The aim of these talks is to produce as quickly as possible further guidance for Dr. Jarring to enable him to make progress with the parties towards a political settlement of the Arab/ Israel dispute. I believe that the early resumption of Dr. Jarring's mission provides the best hope for progress.

I do not accept the implication of the last part of my hon. Friend's Question.
