HC Deb 21 January 1970 vol 794 cc131-2W
Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many Scottish local authorities have decided to add sodium fluoride to their supplies of drinking water; how many have refused; how many had not replied by 31st December, 1969; and what further action he proposes taking.

Mr. Ross

Four authorities are already adding fluoride to part of their water supplies. All local health authorities were asked to review their policy on fluoridation and to report to me by the end of 1969. So far 19 have stated that they do not propose to add fluoride and 11 are in favour of doing so. Twenty-six have not yet replied or have sent only interim replies. I shall consider whether any further action is necessary after all replies have been received.
