asked the President of the Board of Trade to what extent the British Airports Authority has made grants towards the soundproofing of homes in the vicinity of its airports; and what is the average grant per home.

The British Airports Authority has paid £337,791 up to 30th November, 1969, towards the sound insulation of 3,049 dwellings in the vicinity of Heathrow, out of approximately 60,000 eligible. The average amount paid up to the end of 1968, when the rate of grant was 50 per cent. with a maximum of £100 per dwelling, was approximately £97. The average since, with a grant rate of 60 per cent. and an increased maximum of £150 per dwelling, was approximately £125.
