HC Deb 20 January 1970 vol 794 cc110-1W
Q8. Mr. Tudor Watkins

asked the Prime Minister what representations he has received from the Breconshire County Council about the procuring of water by means other than those which involve land used for agricultural, religious, cultural and social purposes; if he will recommend the appointment of a Royal Commission or similar body to examine alternative methods of securing water; and if he will meanwhile withhold approval from proposals submitted by river authorities in Brecon and Radnor.

The Prime Minister

The Council wrote to me and to my right hon. Friends the Secretary of State for Wales and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food on 2nd December.

As stated in the reply to the Council, the Water Resources Board already has responsibility for studying all methods of augmenting water supplies including the possibility of estuary conservation. But my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales must continue to consider proposals for water supply in the shorter term in the light of need and other relevant considerations.
