HC Deb 19 January 1970 vol 794 c51W
Sir Knox Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for Defence which were the areas in Ulster in which the military authorities asked for wreaths to be removed from war memorials; and what were the reasons for so doing.

Mr. Hattersley

The City Security Committee suggested to the British Legion that they should remove wreaths from the Cenotaph in the Diamond, Londonderry after a suitable period, to avoid the risk of an incident being provoked by desecration such as had occurred in the past.
