HC Deb 19 January 1970 vol 794 c23W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he is aware that the withdrawal of facilities for the renewal of United Kingdom passports in Rhodesia has caused inconvenience, expense, and concern among British subjects; what reviews have been made of the procedure for renewals in Pretoria; and what changes are being made.

Mr. Luard

I am aware that people in Rhodesia who have no sympathy for the pretensions of the illegal regime are affected by difficulties in renewing passports as much as the regime's sympathisers. We regret this but the situation has been produced by the regime's intransigence.

The arrangements made to deal specially with applications in Pretoria have been frequently reviewed; no changes are contemplated at present.
